The first thing you should know about Mike + Desiré’s elopement is that it was absolutely freaking magical. And the second thing you should know is that it was originally supposed to be a wedding. They actually had a lot of details planned out; an all-evening party, food and friends, a midnight hike up the Butte…but after all that planning they started to feel like a wedding just wasn’t them. They wanted something a little smaller, simpler, and more intimate. So they eloped instead. Did you know you could do that??
Our original location plan fell through because of 60 mph wind gusts and below zero temperatures (THANKS, ALASKA), but I don’t think anyone was upset at the new location. It was a crystal clear day, we all piled into the trusty VW van, LJ the officiant dressed as Cupid for the occasion, and we hiked up a snowy trail and witnessed Mike + Desiré say “I do” as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was very cold. Nobody cared. After the simple ceremony we drove back to Mike and Desiré’s cozy home where they held a small cocktail party with close friends and family.
One of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer is seeing how every couple chooses to celebrate their love, and this celebration was one for the books. Thanks for trusting me to capture your day, Mike and Desire!
