Joe and Tara met on a semi-blind date back in the summer of 2012 (his sister set them up!) – they immediately hit it off and saw each other 30 days straight that summer. Joe proposed 5 years later on the tennis court. Tara thought he was joking, in classic Joe fashion, and if you know Joe then you understand why she would think that!
They initially considered eloping, but ultimately decided that in order to have their closest friends and family there it would make more sense to go all-out with a wedding somewhere more accessible. It all went down at The Loft in Chehalis, Washington, where exposed brick, wooden beams, and cozy string lights blended with fresh greens and luxe golds to create a perfectly boho yet modern backdrop.
I asked Tara if she had any advice for couples getting married:
“Once the planning was in full swing, I began to get lots of opinions from friends, family, and some vendors of
what should be included or not included in our wedding day. People kept saying “that’s just part of a
wedding.” No. No, it’s not. I’m typically a passive person, so it was hard to please everyone and keep with
what was most meaningful to Joe and I… but at the end of the day, we made certain decisions based upon
what we wanted.
For example, we did not exchange gifts before the ceremony. We did not
have a bouquet toss or a garter toss. We did not have a father-daughter dance or a mother-son dance. No
one cared. We don’t regret it.
My wedding day shoes were flats (not heels). We chugged tall cans of Rainier during our First Look. We
did have a wood-fired pizza food truck. We did have a sparkler exit before leaving in a 1959 Rolls-Royce (best
decision ever!). You do you. It’s your day!”
