dear diary, the world is on fire and i can’t stop eating peanut butter
Soooooo how’s your COVID quarantine going?! Here are a few of my highlights so far:
• Eating peanut butter, straight peanut butter, with a spoon out of the jar, just standing there in the kitchen eating peanut butter with a spoon right out of the god damned jar
• Wondering if now is a good time to adopt another dog?
• Masking the existential dread with dry shampoo and vodka
• Calling my mom……again
• Using memes instead of words to express my feelings like the mature adult I am
But one bright spot in our current world of WTF is witnessing how strongly people are connecting with each other even though we can’t meet up in person. I’ve been spending most of my social media time over on Instagram (it’s actually the only social media app I use because that’s where my clients are!), and I’m 100% into what’s happening there:
People who have never been on video before going Live. Encouraging posts and quotes. Artists giving away new phone wallpapers. Business owners sharing their knowledge for free. More pictures of pets than ever before! Oh, and the 10 pushup challenge.
PSA: PLEASE DO NOT TAG ME IN THE 10 PUSHUP CHALLENGE, I CAN ONLY DO 5 PUSHUPS AND NONE OF THEM ARE INSTAGRAM WORTHY.
You might be keeping to yourself because you need to shut off the noise/process your emotions/eat peanut butter straight from the jar in peace. And I applaud you, because that shit is incredibly necessary right now. But if you’re at a point now where you’re missing human contact, feeling lonely, or want to do something productive that will make a difference in your business, just know this is the PERFECT time to build and nurture our own online community!
Whatever platform you use, your audience is ready to hear from you. They’re ready to accept the help you can offer, to connect with you on a deeper level, and – most importantly – to see pictures of your pets.
If you know how powerful Instagram is when it comes to marketing but haven’t been able to make it work for your own business, why not use this weird-ass time to give it a real shot? I’d love to invite you to join Captivation – a massive collection of 120 social media content prompts!
